Titanium or Stainless Steel earrings – which is better for sensitive ears?

I can’t wear any earrings containing nickel. Also get swelling and redness from sterling silver and 14k gold…

So I’m going to try titanium or stainless steel. Anyone have any info as to which might be the best to go for? Or if you know of any better option, please let me know.

Surgical steel (stainless steel is what cutlery is made from, not piercing jewellery) contains nickel but releases only minute amounts of it and does not usually bother people with nickel allergies unless you’re really really sensitive.

Titanium does not contain nickel at all and should be absolutely fine for you – the plus with titanium is that it comes in different colours as well. It’s a little bit more expensive than surgical steel but not usually that much.

Sterling silver is pretty much a junk metal and should not be used for piercing jewellery. It contains nickel and also oxidises, turning black, which will also irritate skin. Gold also contains a lot of other metals because pure gold is too soft to be of any use for jewellery making.
