Web stall guard question?

I really want to take down these old unsafe wooden/wire stall doors that are in this barn I am going to purchase and add web canvas stall guards instead. I would like other peoples opinions about stall guards, do you use them and a regular stall door or by themselves? do you think they are safe? have you had any problems with them? is there a kind you recommend? Anything helps! =]

I’ve used stall guards before, but not in place of doors. Only when I’m about in the barn and can keep an eye on the horses perhaps say to allow the air of a fan to circulate on a hot day.

Unless the stall guards are put up high enough and put up properly, a horse can get a foot caught in them. The resultant damage could be bad.

Do your current doors slide across on door runners or are they on hinges?

I know webbed stall guards are the cheapest thing, but the quickest thing to put up that I’ve seen and liked at the wire stall doors. Something like the Royal Wire stall front gates – they are put up hanging about 12-14 inches off the ground – too high for feet to get caught under and too low for a horse to crawl under. You can get them that have a yoke for the horse to put their head comfortably over the gate or just solid so they can’t stick their heads out. These allow airflow into the stall and a more open environment that’s still safe for the horse. They run about $100 each.

I wouldn’t recommend replacing your stalls with these as permanent stall doors.
